WHAT IS AUTISM (ASD)?

Autism (Autism Spectrum Disorder, ASD) affects how people communicate and interact with the world around them. With early diagnosis and intervention, autistic children and teenagers can thrive and reach their full potential.

Autism is a spectrum disorder and each child is unique so symptoms may vary. Most common symptoms include:

  • Social interaction and communication challenges
  • Difficulty initiating or maintaining conversations
  • Lack of interest in the activities of peers
  • Delayed language development
  • Specific sensory interests and sensory avoidance
  • Difficulty with imagination and play
  • Repetitive patterns of behaviour or activities
  • Challenges with non verbal communication such as eye contact
  • Difficulties understanding and interpreting social cues”An Autism diagnosis can open doors to resources and support that can make a huge difference, helping children develop the necessary skills to live more comfortably”

Early diagnosis is the first step to helping your child overcome challenges and support their unique difference.

WHY GET A DIAGNOSIS?

We offer an initial consultation if you are concerned that a family member may have Autism (Autism Spectrum Disorder, ASD). The purpose of the consultation is to consider whether a commitment for a formal assessment is the appropriate next step.

  • An Autism Diagnosis has many benefits including:
  • Helping you understand why your child finds certain things challenging
  • Making sure your child has the correct support at home and school to enable them to thrive
  • Offering your child a way to understand why they find some things difficult compared to other children
  • EDUCATION AND SUPPORT

Autism is a complex condition. It affects many areas of a person’s life (e.g. behaviour, emotional reactivity, relationships etc.) and creates confusion about its causes and impact on the individual.
We offer tailor made Psychoeducation to help you understand the neurodiverse experience, improve emotion regulation, behaviour, mind reading and social skills.
